THE HEAT IS ON! Warning Signs & Symptoms of Heat Related Illnesses

Genesis PrimeCare's Freddy the First Aid Frog here and I'm reporting live from East Texas on this breaking news story...

Now that we've survived the torrential rain storms of the last month, guess it's time to move on to the next Texas weather challenge. Summer has shown up a few days early around here, and it's already HOT!!! Looks like we're in for temps in the upper 90's for the next several days with heat indexes well above 100 degrees. It's gonna be brutal, folks.

Genesis PrimeCare's providers suggests these simple precautions to help protect yourself from heat related illnesses:

  • Take cooling breaks in an air-conditioned location or a shady area.

  • Drink plenty of water and/or sports drinks to stay hydrated even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcoholic drinks while working outside as they tend to dehydrate you even more.

  • Schedule strenuous activities early in the day when it is a little bit cooler.

  • Watch out for each other to observe for signs of heat illness. Be sure to periodically check on older friends and relatives to be sure that they are OK.
